BRIGHAM CITY - Dorothy Jean Mastin Sanderson Bruderer, 90, passed away Thursday, November 1, 2012 quietly and peacefully at Pioneer Care Center in Brigham City, Utah.
Jean, as she liked to be called, was born Oct. 3, 1922, in Shelley Idaho, a daughter of Ernest Linwood and Johanna Gordon Mastin. She spent most of her growing up years in Billings, Montana, entering High School at 12 yrs old and graduating from High School at age 16. Jean was a voracious reader, having read the dictionary just to be able to have something to read, thus increasing her knowledge, language
and spelling skills. Her reading abilities have served her well all her life.
After High School, Jean attended a Business School for a year, and then worked in Billings at a Department store- (being so small and young kept her from working in the secretarial field as she had planned).
She married Alma J. Bruderer on April 21, 1943 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died on September 5, 1985.
As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in many capacities throughout her life: teacher in Primary and Young Women, Secretary in the Relief Society, Family History Consultant, and a Visiting Teacher for many, many years. One of her highest priorities was her weekly temple attendance, until her strokes left her unable to do so. We were able to get her to the temple about once a month for a while and as often as possible after that. She was thrilled to have a Temple here in Brigham City and was able to attend the open house, dedication and do a session before her passing.
Surviving are her children: Gordon (Shirley) of Farr West, UT; Mary Ann (Lorin) Roche of Brigham, UT.; Charles (Marilynn) of Methune, MA; Ben (Janice) of San Antonio, TX; John (Julie) of Sandy, UT, and David (Debbie) of Clinton, UT.; 32 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents and an seven of her siblings, her husband, twin infant daughters, Jean and Jane, two grandsons, Jeff and Eric, and a granddaughter, Debbie.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the Brigham City 1st/9th Ward, 263 E. 100 S., Brigham City, UT.
Friends may call on Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 E. 200 S., Brigham City and on Saturday, 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the Church. Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery.
Dave and Debbie, So sorry for your loss. Your mom was a very nice lady. I was just wondering about her last week as I walked by her house. Our thoughts are with you.
We are so sorry for your loss of a wonderful mother. Although we did not know her personally it is apparent she was an amazingly strong and loving mother as her legacy lives on through her children. Cherish your memories, our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
I had the priviledge of caring for Jean when I worked @ Pioneer a few years ago. She was such a sweet woman. Her dry sense of humor kept me laughing. What a special person she was. May you be blessed with the spirit of comfort at this time.
